Stuart

I grew up in an eastern suburb of London, England, just a short train ride from the Tower of London. I have one sibling – a brother named Matthew. Matthew is physically disabled, but this never stopped him from playing soccer on his crutches, and from playing basketball in his wheelchair. It also didn’t prevent us from having the typical sibling rivalries, and even the occasional fight! My mom was a librarian, and my dad was the local community “Bobby” or police officer until he retired after over 20 years of service. Everyone in town knew my dad and it was a little bit like having a celebrity in the family. (It was also great because the ice cream deliveryman used to give me big tubs of ice cream for free – probably to try and cover up any wrongdoings he was engaged in!)

We took a lot of family vacations, so I got the chance to see a lot of the world. My absolute favorite vacation was when I visited Disney World in Florida at eight years old. Even then I knew I wanted to live in America! In 1996, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from London and have been here ever since. I currently work for a California-based bank in human resources. I love my job and enjoy the opportunities it allows for me to be creative and manage important projects. While Randall and I intend to live permanently in the U.S., our child will have dual citizenship and have the ability to work and travel freely around Europe. We are certain that our child will love to explore the world as we have both done.

I have always enjoyed reading anything from classic literature, modern novels, to non-fiction and history books. I am rather passionate about music. I have an extensive collection of CDs – from Bjork to Verdi, The Beatles to The Eagles, Missy Elliot to Ella Fitzgerald – I like all sorts. I seem to be the only person I know with a completely full iPod! I cannot wait to become a dad – I love the simple joy of holding a small infant, and I equally love playing silly and fun games with our friends’ children. I’m looking forward to sharing stories and games with our child, as well as a sense of wonder at the world.
